⇒ I am 7x more productive with AI
I have felt a lot more productive since getting into agentic coding with tools like Cursor, Claude, Grok Build, and Kimi. Beyond getting a lot more done at work and keeping my coworkers busy reviewing PRs, I’ve revamped my personal blog, made games for my kids, started building the spreadsheet app of my dreams, made my own clockface, and more.

⇒ Representing OpenSSF at AfricaCyberFest
Open source software is playing an important role in Africa’s digital growth. Across the continent, more organizations, developers, and communities are adopting open source to build technology and solve local challenges. As this adoption grows, it’s time to look beyond simply using open source and start paying equal attention to securing it. Building a stronger open source ecosystem means making security, sustainability, and long-term project health part of the conversation from the start.

⇒ BSDCan 2026 Trip Report – ShengYi Hung
I’m really grateful to the FreeBSD Foundation for sponsoring my trip to BSDCan 2026 in Ottawa. The conference ran for four days — two days of DevSummit, then two days of the main conference, with many interesting talks throughout. For me, it’s mainly a chance to talk with developers I don’t otherwise get to reach in day-to-day work. This was my third time attending, and I was happy to be back again.
⇒ BSDCan 2026 Travel Report – Patrick McEvoy
The June 2026 FreeBSD DevSummit & BSDCan was again successfully recorded and streamed through longtime streaming sponsor ScaleEngine. The requested DevSummit 2 question microphone system kept our running around to a minimum and fit the two rows of DMS1160. We got to see CheriBSD hardware again, in fact, Brooks Davis presented from a CheriBSD box. This year, the DevSummit focused more on AI integration than in previous years. Community member Warner Losh, in particular, gave an interesting talk about how he has used AI to help resolve an issue he was facing. I will refer you to the video posted to the FreeBSD YouTube channel for more details.

OpenSSF Community Day provides an essential forum for maintainers and contributors to build professional connections and advance software security. My recent experience in Minneapolis revealed that these gatherings are more than simple meetings; they are collaborative ecosystems. Whether you are a maintainer or a first-time contributor, attending provides invaluable insights, fosters transparency, and accelerates project development.

⇒ OpenAI and Hugging Face partner to address security incident during model evaluation
Last week, Hugging Face disclosed a new kind of security incident(opens in a new window) after they detected and contained an AI agent that compromised their infrastructure, something we expect to become more commonplace with the proliferation of increasingly cyber-capable models. After investigating, we now know that this particular incident was driven by a combination of OpenAI models — including GPT‑5.6 Sol and an even more capable pre-release model, all with reduced cyber refusals for evaluation purposes — while being internally tested on a benchmark(opens in a new window) of cyber capabilities.
